There is a story behind the chunky red wool. Grandma Janette knitted Dad a gorgeous red, cabled sweater a good 25 years ago. I remember thinking it was so pretty, but itchy. The downside was that the sweater was just way too warm for comfort. Maybe it would have worked while researching penguins in Antarctica but not in rural Ohio.

I don't know what became of the sweater.

The stash also contained similar weight navy and cream wool. The modified Chunky Cabled Beanie is what I came up with based on the yarn on hand. The hat fits E great, on me it's not quite deep enough. I'm considering frogging the cream part and doing one more cable repeat to make the hat deeper. We shall see.

I'm also considering giving the hat to Dad in memory of the ultra warm sweater.

I'm working on another hat. This time a Nautilus in rainbow acrylic for my step-mother. Sue lost her Mother this past March. Ruth loved rainbows. The yarn is from her stash. It's looking a little small, hopefully it will fit. Otherwise it will go to Evelyn and I'll try it again with a larger needle.
